Here are 8 interesting links for the month of March – all Mercer Island-related news and notes from around the web. Hope you enjoy!

1 & 2. The Mercer Island Police Department reported a recent “eventful night” when an officer discovered a car full of teenagers along with assault weapons, ammo, and a bullet proof vest in the south Luther Burbank Parking lot.  According to a KIRO 7 story, one of the teens may have been selling the rifles to the others. Q13 Fox also covered the story with an interview with Mercer Island police officer Leslie Burns who said, at this point, the department “has no idea what [the teens] were doing.”  [KIRO 7 & Q13 Fox]

3 & 4.  Patti Payne with the Puget Sound Business Journal has been busy lately writing about new listings on Mercer Island.  The “Patti Payne’s Cool Pads” column has recently included a $4.69 million mansion built by the founder of Dermabond (a surgical glue company) as well as a $5.9 million waterfront mansion – the final home designed by Ralph Anderson, built with his son Ross. 5. Speaking of famous Mid-Century Modern architects, a 1960 Fred Bassetti-designed home also came on the market this month – situated on nearly an acre with East-facing views – listed at $2.45 million [Seattle Curbed].

6. The Mercer Island Preschool Association’s beloved Circus event is turning 50!  Formerly known as “Circus McGurkus,” the event, complete with carnival games, bouncy houses, and pony rides, attracts hundreds of Seattle-area families with preschool-aged children every year. [Mercer Island Reporter]

7 & 8. The Greater Seattle community is tuning into the local conversation about the Mercer Island Center for the Arts and the “Concerned Citizens” parks petition. Crosscut provided an overview of the Center and the debate over Mercerdale Park and King 5 recently did a news segment on the debate as well.  [Crosscut & King 5 News]
