This City of Mercer Island will be hosting a community information session on a proposed new Mercer Island residential development at 2825 West Mercer Way, the location of the former East Seattle School and Old Boys & Girls Club.
The session will take place on Thursday, June 20th, at 6 pm, at the Mercer Island Community & Event Center in the Slater Room.
The City is currently reviewing two permit applications for the site, including (1) demolition of the former East Seattle School building and (2) subdivision of the property into 14 residential lots.
According to a recent City newsletter, the meeting will include presentations by city staff and representatives of OB Mercer Island Properties, LLC – the property owner and project applicant – on the review and permitting process as well as the owner’s vision for the development.

The 2.88-acre property is steeped in Mercer Island history as the site of a stucco 1914 building that served as the East Seattle elementary school for almost 70 years, and then as a Boys & Girls Club facility for nearly 30 years.
For an interesting background on the property and community efforts to preserve the historic though badly deteriorated building, check out this Mercer Island Reporter article, published when the property owner submitted the demolition permit in 2017.
