Description

At 10:17 a.m. on Thursday October 17th, 2019, thousands of Washingtonians will Drop, Cover, and Hold On in The Great Washington ShakeOut, our largest earthquake drill ever.

Major earthquakes can happen anywhere you work, live, or travel in Washington. The ShakeOut is our chance to practice how to protect ourselves when an earthquake strikes. The goal is to prevent a major earthquake from becoming a catastrophe for you, your family, and our community. We do this my planning, preparing and practicing what we will do when an earthquake strikes. As with anything to act quickly you must practice often. You may only have seconds to protect yourself in an earthquake before strong shaking knocks you down, or something falls on you.

The City of Mercer Island Staff as well as the Mercer Island School District will be participating in the 2019 Shakeout Drill, and you can participate as well; individuals, families, businesses, schools, colleges, government agencies and organizations are all invited to register.
