Description
In honor of Martin Luther King Day, Mercer Island Parks and Recreation is hosting a volunteer event at Luther Burbank Park, beginning near the railroad playground.
Bring water and dress for cold weather in clothes you don’t mind getting dirty: think long pants, boots, and sneakers. Snacks, warm drinks, gloves, and tools will be provided.
Event description from Mercer Island Parks and Recreation:
Join us in restoring the Lake Washington shoreline in Luther Burbank Park for MLK Day this year. Volunteers will work together as a team using wheelbarrows, rakes, and pruning tools. Together, we’ll accomplish the following:
- Spread mulch to improve soil health on an old trail and
- Create ivy rings around large canopy trees that shade and protect the shoreline.
This project is an important step in a larger effort to build a new trail and protect the delicate lakeside habitat for wildlife.
Help revitalize this local green space while connecting with neighbors across the island! To register, click this link.
