Description

To support the community, the Mercer Island Health Youth Initiative would like to offer Mental Health First Aid Training (MHFA) at no cost to members of the community. MHFA provides adults with the skills to help someone who is developing a mental health problem or experiencing a mental health crisis. This training, like a CPR training, does not require any clinical background or prior experience. Participants will learn risk factors and warning signs for mental health and substance use concerns, strategies for how to help someone in both crisis and non-crisis situations, how to access resources and where to turn for help, and how to respond to substance use overdose and administer naloxone.

Mercer Island Health Youth Initiative is partnering with Jewish Family Service (JFS) to facilitate MHFA in both the Adult and Youth curriculums. JFS helps vulnerable individuals and families in the Puget Sound region achieve well-being, health and stability.

Adult Mental Health First Aid will take place virtually on Fridays, February 26th and April 23rd from 9 am – 4:30 pm, with breaks and time for lunch. Youth Mental Health First Aid will also take place virtually on Saturday, March 20th and Friday, May 8th from 9 am – 3:30 pm. These trainings are for attendees 18+ years old, the youth/adult tracks designate the curriculum area of focus.

For more detailed information on the trainings, visit the JFS website, and to register for the training, please email Rachel Montgomery at [email protected].
