Please note that there are two different times and locations for this event. The 11:30 am program is scheduled at the Mercer Island Community & Events Center, while the 7 pm program is scheduled at the Mercer Island High School Performing Arts Center: 9100 SE 42nd St, Mercer Island, 98040.

The morning program is geared toward parents of preschool- and elementary-age children, and parents of middle and high schoolers are invited to the evening presentation.

Event description from MI Parent Edge website:

Co-authors William Stixrud and Ned Johnson provide research-based advice on how to help children and teens become more resilient, balanced, and motivated for learning.  Today’s children and teens experience an intense pressure to succeed, combined with social media, demanding homework, lack of sleep, and other stressors. Dr. Stixrud and Johnson argue that the “best antidote” to stress is to give children more control over their lives.

The Self-Driven Child offers a combination of cutting-edge brain science, the latest discoveries in behavioral therapy, and case studies drawn from thousands of Stixrud and Johnson’s former patients. What Do You Say? takes lessons from The Self-Driven Child and teaches parents how to communicate effectively and compassionately with their children.

Presented in partnership with Mercer Island Youth and Family Services.
