Description

Stop by for some cocoa and cookies at the Fourth Annual MLK Day Cocoa and Cookie Stand! The Moncaster family came up with the idea of a hot chocolate stand to raise money and make a donation in support of civil rights to the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union). The ALCU’s mission is “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed by the Constitution and laws of the United States.”

The girls save a portion of their small allowance throughout the year to buy the milk, cocoa, cups, whipped cream, and cookie ingredients, and spend part of the weekend making signs, reaching out to neighbors, and baking. Every year, some of their classmates and teammates join the effort. While they have raised hundreds of dollars over the years for the ACLU, they have also raised their confidence in their ability to contribute to a greater cause.
