Stroum Jewish Community Center and Jewish Book Council present a Virtual Book Fest in Your Living Room with author David E. Lowe. National Jewish Book Award-Winner David E. Lowe discusses his biography Touched with Fire: Morris B. Abram and the Battle Against Racial and Religious Discrimination. Morris B. Abram emerged from humble origins in rural South Georgia to become one of the leading civil rights lawyers in America in the 1950’s. He unmasked the Ku Klux Klan, served as a key intermediary for the release of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. from prison, and won a fourteen-year battle to end the discriminatory voting system in his segregated state of Georgia. The result was the historic “one man, one vote” ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court in 1963. Abram was also a champion of international human rights, from his leadership in the struggle to liberate Soviet Jewry to his service as permanent representative to the United Nations in Geneva.

Tickets are free with a suggested donation of $5 – $10 or $34 with a book purchase from Island Books. The zoom link will be emailed one hour prior to the start time.
