Since its origin in 1952, the Mercer Island Beach Club has been a premier destination for fitness and wellness, in addition to summer socializing and family fun. Located on the southeast side of Mercer Island, the club offers a full suite of amenities within its integrated 7.5 acres of waterfront property along with a breathtaking view of Mount Rainier. Members enjoy a 2,200 square-foot state-of-the art fitness center with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the lake, six outdoor tennis courts, two pools (activity and competition), a dedicated pickleball court, basketball and volleyball courts, beach access, boat moorage, and a clubhouse for club socials and private events.

Mercer Island Country Club

The Mercer Island Country Club (MICC) has been serving its members since its founding in 1967. While not on the water but conveniently located on the south end of the island, MICC is considered a great year-round club and is ideal for avid tennis players as the only local club with indoor as well as outdoor tennis courts. It also features an eight-lane, 25-yard pool with a spring diving board and a weight room and fitness studio, with modern equipment and machines, including Peloton spin bikes and TRX equipment.

Mercerwood Shore Club

A beautiful waterfront property with a convenient eastside location, the Mercerwood Shore Club opened a new, state-of-the-art clubhouse in July 2015. The 6,000 square-foot facility features a modern lounge, cardio studio, weight room, hot tub, and wading pool for toddlers. Members enjoy 500-feet of sprawling waterfront property, a pristine 25-meter pool with a one-meter diving board, four outdoor tennis courts, beach access, and boat moorage.

Stroum Jewish Community Center

A hub of Jewish life and culture on Mercer Island but welcoming to all, the Stroum Jewish Community Center (SJCC) is a fully featured family-friendly health club with offerings that can’t be found at the other clubs, including a gymnasium, indoor running track, and racquetball courts. The SJCC also features a 2,000 square-foot fitness center, pool, studios for fitness classes, a boxing room with heavy bags and speed bags, a strength and conditioning room with sandbags, kettle bells, and big tires. Additionally, they host pickleball on Saturday and Sundays, with indoor courts and all necessary equipment for the game.

Mercer Island Community & Event Center

While not exactly a club on Mercer Island, the Mercer Island Community & Event Center (MICEC) shouldn’t be overlooked as a possibility for fulfilling your fitness needs. The MICEC features a 1,450 square-foot fitness room with Techno Gym cardio equipment and free weights, which you can access with a reasonably priced daily drop-in pass or a punch pass. The MICEC also features a 10,000 square-foot gymnasium that can accommodate one full-size or two half-size basketball courts, up to three volleyball courts, ping pong tables, senior walking, an indoor playground for toddlers and their families, and six pickleball or badminton courts. A variety of fitness classes and personal training are also offered. Drop-in sports are available three times per day. The times change every quarter, so reference their website for the most up-to-date information.

Specializing in teams and individuals of all ages, 212 Health & Fitness owner Jason Kaliloa teaches functional fitness using sleds, free weights, TRX suspension systems, slam balls, stationary bikes, water towers, dumbbells ranging from 3-100 lbs., punching bags, kettle bells, strength bands, boxes, medicine balls, stability balls, pull up bars, dip machines and good old body weight exercises. Kaliloa’s clients range from 14 to 78 years of age, and he works with each client individually to design a plan for success.

Club Pilates opened in 2018 in The Hadley building in downtown Mercer Island. Classes range from beginner Pilates classes to advanced Cardio Sculpt workouts and are designed to be inclusive and accessible to everyone, from youth to senior, of all ability levels. Core Havn opened on Mercer Island in June 2021, and the studio derives its name from owner Catherine DeHaven and her unshakable belief that any person can become strong and secure when connecting into their individual “core,” whether that’s abdominal muscles or inner strength. Core Havn offers Slow Resistance Training, an approach that focuses on muscular endurance, muscular strength, and mobility. In addition to group fitness classes, Core Havn offers versatile, cutting-edge Xformer equipment, which facilitates Slow Resistance Training exercises, traditional strength training moves, and classical Pilates poses. To get acquainted with the equipment, you can sign up for an Intro to Xformer class or a private session with an instructor.

Formerly the MI Athletic Club, Impact Fitness + Training offers comprehensive, cutting-edge fitness classes and personal training in a bright, modern facility in downtown Mercer Island. The classes offer something for everyone, plus a whole lot of fun. You’ll find cycling, high-intensity interval training (HIIT), circuit-style training, functional and TRX strength training, and more. Some classes offer multiple modalities – you’ll get cycling and strength training in Ride & Rip, for example; other classes are focused and hone in on strengthening specific muscle groups, such as the the Arms & Abs class. You can also take advantage of Open Gym visits and work out on the equipment at your own pace. Massage Therapy is another offering at Impact Fitness you won’t want to miss.

Jazzercise

Jazzercise arrived on the national fitness scene 45 years ago and has been going strong on Mercer Island ever since, thanks to local owner Lori Hollow. This group dance fitness class combines dance-based cardio with strength training and stretching to sculpt, tone, and lengthen muscles for maximum fat burn. Classes were put on hold during the pandemic but will be offered soon at the Mercer Island Community & Event Center, weekdays at 8 am.

Orangetheory Mercer Island

Orangetheory Fitness offers 60-minute workout sessions split into intervals of cardiovascular and strength training with heart rate monitors to track intensity and maximize metabolic burn. Workouts are two-part (cardio and strength training) and led by a fitness trainer. The studio has 14 treadmills, 14 rowing machines, 14 suspension unit systems and plenty of free weights and benches for sessions of 28 to 42 people, or as few as four.
