Groveland Beach Park reopened to the public on Saturday, May 25th, over Memorial Day weekend, following a months-long dock repair and shoreline improvement project. The weather cooperated, and the beach was filled swimmers and sunbathers out to enjoy the warm, sunny days.
Features of the restored park include new wave attenuator and buoys beyond the large pier, structural repairs to the large pier/dock, a renovated shoreline north of the concrete bulkhead (including new steps for hand-carry boat access), new native landscape plantings, and salmon spawning gravels in shallow water.
Groveland Beach Park is Mercer Island’s only west-facing park, and as such, is a great place to enjoy sunsets. Park amenities include a sandy beach, fishing pier and platform, grassy lawn area, playground, sandy beach volleyball court, picnic tables, benches, barbecue area, and restrooms (available only during summer months).
Safety note: there will not be lifeguards at Mercer Island beaches this summer due to budget cuts.
