Home design and decor is a bit of puzzle, especially in finding the right way to put furniture, art, and home accessories together to best express yourself and create a home you love.
After touring the restored Symphony House, newly listed on Mercer Island, I’m inspired to envision the new chapter for this home. The home is obviously traditional in its design. However, it’s possible to add modern touches when making design and decor choices. By layering in pieces that are modern, a style opposite of traditional, rooms become interesting and welcoming.
What might that look like? Imagine Persian rugs paired with mid-century modern chairs. A long, low credenza topped with old hardbound books and an alabaster lamp. A tufted headboard illuminated by brass sconces for reading.
Your style may be traditional, mid-century modern, minimalist, bohemian, or rustic. Design decisions are very personal. However, as you think of your home, consider experimenting with an opposing style to make your home come alive.
[Inspiration for styling traditional with modern comes from Emily Henderson’s new book, Styled.]
