Make a Difference on Mercer Island – Serve on a City Advisory Board

Help improve the livability of Mercer Island by getting more involved in our community. The Mercer Island City Council is currently seeking a diverse range of citizens to serve on several volunteer advisory boards.

Appointments to boards and commissions are made by the Mayor and affirmed by the City Council. Generally, terms run June 1st through May 31st, for a four-year period.  Upon appointment, board members can expect to spend approximately 10 hours per month serving on the board, though levels of commitment may vary.

Boards and commissions with open positions include:

  • Arts Council (3 positions)
  • Community Services Board
    • 2 Adult positions
    • 4 Senior positions
    • 6 Student positions
      • 3 (current 8th graders, who will enter 9th grade in the 2018-2019 School Year)
      • 2 (current 10th graders, who will enter 11th grade in the 2018–2019 School Year)
      • 1 (current 11th grader, who will enter 12th grade in the 2018–2019 School Year)
  • Design Commission (1 position)
  • Open Space Conservancy Trust Board (2 positions)
  • Planning Commission (2 positions)
  • Utility Board (2 positions)
