Here’s some news to smile about – the Mercer Island Farmers Market (MIFM) will return this Sunday, June 7th.

After months of careful planning, MIFM announces its new season, in which the market will open for business each Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm, extending through September 27th.

In response to COVID-19, MIFM has collaborated with the Department of Health to ensure a safe, high-quality market experience for all islanders. By limiting vendors, hours, and capacity, MIFM will maintain proper social distancing at all times. Market-goers will be asked to support this effort by wearing masks and using hand-washing stations dispersed throughout the market. The organizers have also designed a one-way walking route with a single entrance and exit, which will guide shoppers to their favorite vendors while maintaining a clear walking lane.

Although the market layout is noticeably different from previous years, the MIFM team is working diligently to ensure that our community can enjoy this quintessential summer activity. Vendors will continue to offer fresh produce, meats, cheeses, fish, bread, flowers, and artisan goods. From July 5th to September 27th, the market will also feature a talented line-up of local bands and musicians.

As the season progresses, MIFM will continue to issue updates about the market format; you can follow these updates on the organization’s Facebook page, Instagram, and newsletter. In addition to following MIFM on social media and shopping directly at the market, you can further support MIFM by encouraging friends and family members to join you, volunteering as an individual or group, becoming a sponsor, or making a donation.

If you are able to offer financial support, now is an excellent time to make a donation. The 2020 season presents a unique financial challenge for vendors and market sponsors, particularly as MIFM invests in the infrastructure needed to meet the health guidelines for reopening. As a special incentive, a generous Mercer Island family has offered to match all personal donations (up to $5,000 in the aggregate) made between now and the first day of the market on June 7th.

The 2020 season will run on Sundays, June 7th through September 27th, from 10 am – 2 pm, with a special Harvest Market on November 22nd. Per usual, the market will be located at the intersection of SE 32nd St and 77th Ave SE, just north of Mercerdale Park.
