This is it. The final week of training and our last post in a three-part series leading up to the Mercer Island Half Marathon. You have done the hard work, now it is time to prep for the big race on Sunday. We have put together a check list to make sure you are ready!
Ready, Set, Race!
1. Pick your race packet on Saturday at the pre-race expo. Soak in the energy.
2. Make a transportation plan. Get a ride or use the shuttle service provided by the Rotary Club. Also remember, there is free bus fare with your event bib.
3. Bring more nutrition and hydration than you think you will need. Big bummer race day would be dropping your favorite energy gel that you were saving for that mile 11 hill climb. And you can share with friends if they need something! Water, electrolytes, and nutrition are available on the course as well.
4. Choose your race day attire. Make sure it is out and ready to put on in the morning. Use gear check on Sunday to stash warm, dry clothes for after the race.
5. Nothing new on race day! Run with the clothing, shoes, socks, hydration, nutrition and pacing that you trained with.
6. Take what race day gives you! Hopefully the day goes great. If not, just take it as it comes and stay focused on the mile ahead of you.
7. Create a fresh play list. A new combination of upbeat tunes for the duration of your race will be a welcome distraction.
8. After the race, make sure to snap some pictures and celebrate a great accomplishment.
Look for me between mile 8 and 9 on the Half Marathon course. I will be the one madly ringing a cow bell! Good luck and have a great race on Sunday!
Thank you to Mercer Island Rotary and Mercer Island Athletic Club for co-sponsoring this 3-part series.
