First Hill is a beautiful and historic neighborhood on Mercer Island. As its name suggests, the neighborhood is located on a hill between East Seattle and downtown Mercer Island, just south of I-90. The neighborhood’s perch gives many of its homes scenic lake, territorial, and Seattle city skyline views.
This neighborhood was mostly developed in the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, though it has been a strong focus of re-development as many of the original bungalows and mid-century homes have been replaced by newer, larger homes in a variety of craftsman, traditional, modern, and contemporary styles.
The locals enjoy First Hill park and playground, which features a treehouse theme and a long slide down a slope on the park’s south side.
First Hill’s northern boundary is Aubrey Davis Park, also known as the “Park on the Lid,” which features paved walking paths, playfields, two playgrounds, basketball, and tennis courts.
