The Shorewood neighborhood is the location of Shorewood, Mercer Island’s largest apartment community with 41 buildings and 645 apartment units.
One of Shorewood’s most famous residents was Barack Obama’s mother, the late Stanley Ann Dunham. She lived with her family in Shorewood Unit 219 after they moved to Mercer Island in 1956. Stanley graduated from Mercer Island High School in the class of 1960.
Shorewood still has a slightly mid-century / 60s vibe, though all the units have been updated since then, and new buildings have been added. The community features a playground, basketball courts, tennis courts, 24-hour fitness center, and community room.
The neighborhood has easy access to the trails of the Gallagher Hill Open Space and Upper Luther Burbank Park. I-90 access is also a short drive away.
