The Lakes

Explore +

A planned community of approximately 100 Buchan homes built from 1986 to 1988, the Lakes is marking nearly three decades as a South End neighborhood. Many of the original owners still enjoy living in this community.

The figure-eight shaped neighborhood was built around several man-made lakes, giving the community its name.  The traditional-style homes, though similar in appearance, have varying sizes and floor plans. The neighborhood includes ramblers, two-story homes, and several two-story homes with basements. Some of the homes at the back of the neighborhood enjoy lake and territorial views.

The Lakes’ homeowners association ensures that this neighborhood is neatly maintained year-round. There is one entrance from SE 72nd for vehicle access to the neighborhood, and there are also several walking paths and trails that provide a shortcut for children walking to Lakeridge and Islander Middle schools as well as access for walkers to and from nearby neighborhoods.

The Lakes is the island’s most popular trick-or-treating destination on Halloween, and many community members go all out with elaborately decorated homes for the occasion.
