On Wednesday, July 22nd, Metropolitan Market – also known as Met Market – opened its newest store on Mercer Island in the former location of New Seasons Market, which closed about a month earlier.
This is the company’s 8th Met Market location in the greater Seattle area, and one of its largest stores. It offers a well-developed array of produce, meat, catering services, flowers, to-go items, cheeses, wines, and kitchenware.
Shoppers can look forward to Met Market’s “food-forward approach,” which has guided the growth of the company since its establishment in 1971. The company’s food specialists have traveled the world for nearly five decades, searching for culinary treasures to place on the shelves alongside customers’ grocery store essentials. At Met Market, local and international flavors merge to provide both seasonal favorites and hard-to-find items in the same shopping experience.
The Mercer Island location includes a full-service Butcher Shop, run by a team of real butchers who handle high-quality meats and restaurant-quality, ready-to-cook meal options, including burger patties, kabobs, meatloaves, and more. The seafood department features local shellfish, which arrive daily.
The floral shop offers fresh cut, ready-to-go floral arrangements, hand-tied bouquets, and custom orders for weddings and other special events.
For anyone serious about chocolate and sweets, it is nearly impossible to pass up The Cookie, a customer favorite and staple item in the Met Market Bakery. The Cookie is packed with both semisweet and bittersweet Callebaut Belgian-style chocolate and crunchy, toasted walnuts, and is baked fresh and served warm daily. For coffee aficionados, The Cookie is best enjoyed with locally roasted brew from Caffe Vita.
Choose from a variety of sandwiches, slow-roasted meats, and other grab-and-go options from the large prepared food section. The market features a fresh salad bar, a Poké bar, and a rotating hot bar, with all entrees prepared right in front of customers. When it is safe to do so, Met Market plans to re-open the self service bars for added convenience.
Supplement any of your freshly-prepared meals with a gourmet cheese or wine. Met Market has crafted an expansive cheese menu, featuring over 320 cheeses sourced from 12 Washington state cheesemakers in addition to the company’s own fresh-stretched mozzarella. Met Market has also just released their Mercer Island Reserve, a limited edition red blend to celebrate the Mercer Island opening.
Stop by the Kitchen Shop to shop a wide selection of on-trend gift items, as well as everyday housewares and essential tools for the kitchen. A health and beauty section features a large variety of curated items, and among the hottest sellers in the store are the $11.99 masks.
In response to COVID-19, Met Market has implemented strict safety and thorough sanitation protocols, including the regular disinfection of shopping carts and baskets. Masks are required for customers and store staff, and social distancing is aided by markers throughout the store.
In consideration of these precautions, Met Market skipped its traditional one-day grand opening event and instead is celebrating its opening throughout the coming weeks. The store also asks customers to “pardon the dust” as they continue remodeling the store over the next few weeks to ensure a superior shopping experience for years to come.
The Mercer Island Met Market is located at at 2755 77th Ave SE and provides over 100 on-site parking spaces to customers. The store is open daily from 6 am to 11 pm.
