Here’s the My MI 2019 guide to holiday events and activities happening around Mercer Island. From the City’s annual Holiday Lights celebration and Firehouse Munch to Island Youth Ballet’s Nutcracker performance, there’s lots of festive fun in store on Mercer Island.
Thursday – Sunday, former Tully’s Coffee location at 7810 SE 27th St
Buy a quality tree and give back to our local community! Choose from Noble and Douglas Firs (available from 5 ft to 10 ft tall). Be sure to get your mixed green wreaths and cedar garlands as well. Products are sourced from Hunter Christmas Trees, a family farm dedicated to quality and service since 1948. All proceeds support Mercer Island Youth & Family Services and Mercer Island Lions Club charitable giving.
Friday, December 6th, 6:30 to 8 pm, at Mercerdale Park
Gather with your family, friends, and neighbors for an evening of holiday merriment at the community holiday lights celebration at Mercerdale Park followed by a chili feed and more festivities at the nearby Fire Station 91. The tree lighting at Mercerdale Park will take place from 6:30 to 7 pm, and the Firehouse Munch will take place from 7 to 8 pm.
Saturday, December 7th, 11 am to 4 pm at Mercer Island High School
Come visit Mercer Island High School’s Holiday Bazaar. Participating local businesses include Glassy Baby, The Boutique Lounge, Urban Float, Seattle Sun Tan, Truffle Queen, Louie de Coton, L’Experience Paris (formerly Conivivial Café), Salt Blade, Color Street, Trufusion, and many more. Join the festivities and get your holiday shopping done early!
Saturday, December 7th & Sunday December 8th at the Mercer Island High School
Mercer Island girls’ choirs, Prep (2nd through 4th graders) and Island Girls (4th through 6th graders), will delight audiences with a festive vocal performance of “Christmas Town.” There are three performances: Saturday, December 7th at 7 pm and Sunday, December 8th at 2 pm and 7 pm.
Sunday, December 8th, at the Stroum Jewish Community Center (SJCC)
Join the SJCC community for Hanukkah fun with a community concert and celebration! The double-bill concert features Elana Jagoda and Chava Mirel – two nationally touring singers, guitarists, composers, prayer leaders, and recording artists. Plus, enjoy games, latkes, and activities for kids of all ages! Doors open at 11 am for food and games; the concert begins at noon.
Sunday, December 8th, 1:30 to 2:30 pm, at the Mercer Island Library
For over 40 years, The Dickens Carolers has been a beloved holiday tradition. Adorned in Victorian dress, each quartet consists of two ladies in luxurious velvet and two gentleman wearing handsome tailcoats and top hats. Your holiday favorites, both traditional and contemporary, are sung in beautiful four-part harmony. The sights and sounds of The Dickens Carolers are indeed a holiday treat. This performance is sponsored by The Friends of the Mercer Island Library and will take place at the Mercer Island Library on Sunday, December 8th, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm.

Island Youth’s Ballet “Excerpts from the Nutcracker” has become a cherished Mercer Island tradition and must-see for all who wish to experience the holiday magic of one of ballet’s most cherished classics. Whether this is a family tradition or you are experiencing it for the first time, this holiday offering will delight your spirit and imagination. Beautiful costumes, theatrical lighting and sets, and spirited dancing transport you to magical places where mice and soldiers battle, snowflakes dance, and a beautiful sugar plum fairy reigns.
Saturday, December 14th, from 9 am to noon at Evergreen Covenant Church
Families with children ages 3 to 13 are invited to join in the fun and make gifts for the special people in their lives. Each craft takes 20 minutes to complete, so please arrive in plenty of time to complete all crafts ordered. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Sunday, December 22nd, from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at the Luther Burbank Park swimming beach
Don’t miss the Argosy Holiday Ship and Boat Parade as it passes Mercer Island! Enjoy warm beverages and treats by the beach-side bonfire and listen to the Argosy Ship carolers from the Luther Burbank Park shore with your friends and neighbors. Every year there is a boat parade that accompanies the Argosy Ship and lights up the lake during the choir’s performance. The swimming beach is short walking distance from the Luther Burbank Park south parking lot.
