Mercer Island Parent Edge and joint sponsors present “Kids & Race: Changing the Narrative” talk with Jasen Frelot on Thursday, January 18th, at 7 pm, at Northwood Elementary School.

How can parents and educators empower their children to be successful participants in an increasingly racialized world? Learn from Jasen how the stories we unintentionally tell our children to have the greatest impact on their racial identity development and steps for empowering families to address racial injustice in a loving, sustainable, humble way. Jasen Frelot is a father, early childhood educator, social justice advocate, and co-founder of Kids and Race Seattle, which has been featured in Parent Map Magazine and on NPR. For parents of preschool through middle school students.

Jason Frelot is the Executive Director of Kids and Race, a program which empowers adults and children to take responsibility for dismantling racism through honest conversations and loving action. He is also the founding director of Columbia City Preschool of Arts and Culture, an early learning program that seeks to normalize and integrate conversations about race and inclusion into an open, affirming learning environment. His work has been featured on podcasts and publications such as KUOW, The Seattle Times, ParentMap Magazine, and Fox News.

Audience:  For parents of preschoolers through middle school students.
Cost:  Free for PTA Members in the Mercer Island School District. For non-MI PTA members, $10 at the door.
