PTAs to host School Funding Informational Event

High school studentMercer Island School District PTA Legislative Committee is hosting an information session on current issues related to Washington state funding of K-12 education.  All Mercer Island residents are invited to attend the event to take place Thursday, May 21st, from 7 to 8:30 pm, at West Mercer Elementary (4141 81st Ave SE).

The Mercer Island School District PTA Presents: Washington State K-12 Education Funding Informational Event 

The Washington State Legislature is currently in special session, the outcome of which will impact our school funding and student opportunities, potentially including increased class size, elimination of one full class period at the high school, reductions in music, art, and drama programs, and many other opportunities. The Mercer Island School Board addressed such impacts in a recent letter to legislators.

Please attend a community informational event to hear the following guest speakers:

  • Steve Litzow, WA State Senator serving the 41stDistrict
  • Tana Senn,  WA State Representative serving the 41stDistrict
  • Dr. Gary Plano, Superintendent of Mercer Island School District
  • Tani Lindquist, President of the Mercer Island Education Association
  • David D’Souza, Co-President of the M.I. Schools Foundation

This presentation is intended for all Mercer Island residents. In order to be respectful to all speakers and various points of view, the audience is asked not interrupt during the presentations. At the conclusion of all presentations, there will be a structured question and answer period.
