Registration is now open for the 15th annual Mercer Island Youth & Family Services (MIYFS) Foundation Annual Breakfast. The breakfast is a fundraiser that supports MIYFS programs.
The breakfast will take place on Wednesday, February 8th, 2017, from 7:30 to 8:30 am, at the Mercer Island Community & Events Center.
A message from MIYFS:
As we celebrate “15 years of giving from the heart” on Wednesday, February 8, we remember other themes that have been powerful, such as: “The Heart of Mercer Island” and “We are the Safety Net.” The compelling personal stories shared by Islanders represent the profound impact MIYFS has on people here in your community.
This year, you may have noticed that we changed the name of our event from the “Giving from the Heart” Breakfast to the “Youth & Family Services Foundation Annual Breakfast.” Our goal is to make our message clear: donations to MIYFS Foundation directly support the eight programs and services offered through the City of Mercer Island’s Youth and Family Services Department.
This year we are excited to announce our Master of Ceremonies, Bill Radke. Host of KUOW shows “The Record” and “Week In Review,” Radke is a Husky alum. He works on behalf of suicide prevention by using his microphone and making sure journalism is part of the solution to bring mental health out of the shadows.
Our keynote speaker is Kevin Haggerty, PhD. Dr. Haggerty is a principal investigator on a variety of substance abuse prevention research studies. Haggerty specializes in substance abuse prevention programs at the community, school, and family level. For more than 30 years, he has focused on developing innovative ways to organize the scientific knowledge base for prevention so that parents, communities, and schools can better identify, assess and prioritize customized approaches that meet their needs.
The MIYFS Foundation Community Philanthropy Award is given at our Annual Foundation Breakfast to an individual, business, or organization within our wonderful Mercer Island Community to recognize a vital partnership with Mercer Island Youth & Family Services.
It is our honor to announce the 2017 Philanthropy Award Winner: Mercer Island Lions Club. The Lions Club embodies this year’s motto, Islanders Helping Islanders. The Lions Club has been exceptionally generous to MIYFS and numerous other local organizations for many, many years. They exhibit outstanding civic and charitable responsibility and have encouraged, inspired and motivated others to take philanthropic and civic leadership roles in the community.
