I recently wrote about the City Council’s proposed moratorium on residential development permits for subdivisions and lot coverage deviations. These types of development, the Deputy Mayor claims, are changing the “charm and character” of Mercer Island’s neighborhoods.
A second reading of the ordinance will go before the council at their meeting tonight and the council may vote to enact the moratorium.
This has caused quite a stir in the community – some support the ordinance while others oppose it – and now the Seattle Times has published an article covering the controversy.
Whatever your position, the article is an interesting read and sheds light on both sides of the argument:
The Seattle Times: ‘Wall of tall’ replaces humble homes on Mercer Island; moratorium proposed
