For a housewarming gift, birthday present, or a little home decor shopping, Terra Bella is one of my favorite shops on Mercer Island.

It’s a beautiful gift and home decor store owned by Islander Nancy Meade. She moved the store to the Island in July 2013 from its former location on Old Main Street in Bellevue. A year later, Meade expanded to open a gourmet cooking shop, “Terra Bella Cooks!,” next door.

But with both shops located on the site of a future development project, Meade has been keeping her eye out for a new retail home, which her customers hoped would not be back in Bellevue.

Good news came earlier this week when Meade announced the store’s new location – just a block away in Islandia Shopping Center.

With a projected move in late summer 2015, Terra Bella will soon be neighbors with Island Books and Homegrown Sustainable Sandwich Shop.  The gift store will take the place of Hans Garden.

“I think it’s going to be wonderful,” Meade said. “We’re excited to be closer to the hub of downtown Mercer Island, and having more businesses in a smaller, walkable area will be good for all of us. We can help each other out.”

Meade is also looking forward to having both shops – Terra Bella and Terra Bella Cooks! – in one space. She noted that some shoppers in a hurry don’t always make it to both shops in one stop.

But don’t wait to visit until after the move. Terra Bella will continue to be open in its current location for the next four to five months.  The shop is currently stocked with Easter gifts and spring decor items. Terra Bella Cooks! is full of culinary tools for the master chef as well as the busy professional or parent in need of making a quick and easy meal.

Meade is also planning some fun upcoming events, including a celebration of Terra Bella Cooks! first anniversary and Mother’s Day, on Friday, May 1st, and Saturday, May 2nd. Activities will include cooking demonstrations and fun crafts.
