Tween Summer Book Club

Beading for a Cause

A genuine mitzvah project: make beaded jewelry for women living in Seattle shelters so they can rebuild self-confidence. SJCC is joining with Project DVORA at Jewish Family Service, which is dedicated to domestic violence outreach, response, and advocacy. Space is limited. This event costs $10 for members and $15 for guests.
Storytelling/Story Sharing Workshop

“How do I read and share stories with children? Children don’t sit still – how can I read to them? How do I know what kind of story is right to read?”
If these questions have crossed your mind, join the MI Library for a brief workshop on storytelling and story time. Ms. Linda has been sharing stories for many years and wants to help you share the fun of reading aloud to children. Teachers, parents, grandparents, and all adults interested in sharing the wonderful world of stories are invited. No registration necessary.
SixThirTeens Kick-Off Event + Fill Backpacks

Kick off the school year by getting to know the SixThirTeens, a group of community service-minded 6th-12th graders! Join SJCC for donuts and snacks from 11 am to noon to learn more about this philanthropy program. Then, stick around to help them assemble backpacks full of school supplies to donate to low-income families in need at Leschi Elementary School (bagels and snacks provided).
Car Wash and BBQ – Fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association

Sunrise of Mercer Island will be hosting a Car Wash and BBQ in preparation for this year’s Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Help them raise money to help support the Alzheimer’s Association to further their care, support, and research efforts.
Tabletop Thursdays

Drop by for an afternoon of board games, video games, playing pool or ping-pong, and hanging out. There’s a huge selection of games, and the staff is always up to taking on a new competitor. Games include: Codenames, Mission Red Planet, Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Connect 4, Monopoly, and more. Free for ages 7 – 14.

Wellness Strategies Primer with Dr. Dirk Farrell

OsteoStrong Mercer Island presents “It’s Not Too Late,” a wellness primer for everyone. Dr. Dirk Farrell of Align Wellness will cover strategies for wellness, both general and specific. Subjects covered include nutrition, strength, and conditioning programs for all ages. You will walk away with great information on current scientifically proven methods to improve both performance and longevity, on your terms. Refreshments will be served and there is no charge for this event. Seating is limited, so reservations are recommended by visiting their website.
Restoration Event

Each year, Mercer Island citizens donate hundreds of hours of their time to maintain the community’s parks and open spaces: picking up litter, planting trees, cutting down ivy, painting over graffiti, or repairing trails.
Mostly Music in the Park & National Women’s Equality Day Celebration

Mercerdale Park, 77th Avenue SE & SE 32nd Street
This is the last concert of the season! Mostly Music in the Park is Mercer Island Arts Council’s annual summer concert series in Mercerdale Park. Concerts feature various bands and artists from around the region performing a wide variety of music. This week’s featured group is The Infinity Project, a Journey Tribute band!
For the final concert, this event will begin at 5 pm with a Food Truck Rodeo, and the concert will begin at 6 pm. Bring the family for dinner and stay to enjoy the music. They will also be celebrating National Women’s Equality Day!
Camp Shabbat Dinner

Gather your camp friends for the final Shabbat of J Camp! Join SJCC for dinner and s’mores in the Kesher Community Garden as they say thanks to their amazing camp counselors and celebrate a summer of great memories. Please register by August 22. Tickets are $10 per person; kids under 3 are free.
Mercer Island Farmers Market

The Mercer Island Farmers Market is open every Sunday from June – October. Say hello to your favorite vendors and kick the season off with us.
