Welcome and Kick-off Meeting for Scouts BSA Troop 678
Tuesday, February 26, 7:15 – 8:15 pm
Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, 3605 84th Ave SE

Bring your daughter and your daughter’s friends (must have completed 5th grade) to join us at MIPC to celebrate the Kick-off for Troop 678! This will be an opportunity to learn more about the troop, get your questions answered and meet our scouts, troop leaders, and scout parents.  At this session, scouts will choose their troop color, earn founder’s badge, and get special training opportunities! Please register if you plan to attend or have any questions.

Opera Preview: The (R)evolution of Steve Jobs

Learn more about the opera inspired by the creative and challenging life of Steve Jobs, presented by Theodore Deacon. Premiered in 2017 at the Santa Fe Opera, the story follows pivotal points in the life of Steve Jobs, from the infamous 1965 garage beginnings of Apple, to his death in 2011.

Community Open House: Aubrey Davis Master Plan

The City’s Parks and Recreation Department is leading a master planning process in partnership with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to establish a shared community vision for the future of Aubrey Davis Park. Your input will help envision future improvements to the trails, sports facilities, art, playgrounds, and landscape in this cooridor.


Artist’s Reception: “Mercer Island In Focus”

Films at the SJCC: Doubtful

In the desert city of Be’ersheva, Assi (Ran Danker), an emotionally scarred writer, is sentenced to community service teaching juvenile delinquents. Using his skills in scriptwriting and poetry, he helps them take control of their narratives by filming the world around them. Winner of Best First Feature and Best Cinematography at the Jerusalem Film Festival.

Open Book Club: Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger

In February, our Open Book Club will read and discuss Ordinary Grace by William Kent Krueger. “Poetic Embellishment” featuring Noble Golden and Agness Lee

Clarke & Clarke Art + Artifacts will feature two artists in two Art Walks with an opportunity to meet Noble Golden and Agnes Lee at both openings. Noble Golden is a passionate creator of unique paper compositions. Her embellished paper vessels, known as Spirit Bowls, are in collections across the US. Agnes Lee focuses her talents and her “chemistry” with words by mixing materials, techniques, textures, color and Chinese characters to create her dramatic paintings. This show runs through April with new works arriving weekly and it exemplifies the commitment we have to bringing notable artworks to Mercer Island and the NW.

Classics on Film: The Dark Horse

The Classics on Film series, sponsored by the Arts Council, celebrates the amazing variety of chess-themed cinema with the film, The Dark Horse. Film historian Lance Rhoades will introduce and lead a Q&A following the film. All screenings are free and open to the public.


Restoration Event

Meet: Park entrance of 90th Ave SE

Join the City of Mercer Island as they work together with the community in this one-of-a-kind park on Mercer Island. Ellis Pond is the only year-round pond habitat on Mercer Island and many bird and animal species call this pond home. Please dress for the weather and bring a water bottle. All tools and supplies are provided.


PJ Story Time with Nancy Stewart

Yemen Blues Concert with Ravid Kahalani

Conceived from rising Israeli star Ravid Kahalani’s vision, Yemen Blues’ original music mixes Yemeni and West African influences with contemporary grooves, from funk to mambo, and the deep soul of old Mizrachi chants. Kahalani grew up in a traditional Jewish Yemenite family, and brings the language and rhythm of his origins together with blues, funk, classic operatic singing, North African soul, and Middle Eastern textures. Previously the lead singer of Idan Raichel’s World Music Project, Kahalani’s balladry is both boisterous and romantic, joyous and anguished.

Reading with Rover

Build reading skills and confidence by reading aloud to a certified therapy dog in a welcoming environment. Reading with Rover is a community-based literacy program working with schools and libraries throughout the greater Seattle area. Space is limited and there will be a sign-up sheet at the door.


Disney & Dessert Concert
Sunday, March 3, 1:30 – 4 pm
Mercer Island High School, 9100 SE 42nd Street

Disney & Dessert is a fun event for the entire family and the only fundraiser for all of MISD’s orchestras, for grades 5 through 12. Come for the delicious desserts, an hour of the orchestra playing Disney music, including favorite music from Disney’s latest hit movies and, new this year, “Pop & Win” Balloons. Everyone is a winner! Kids, please come in your favorite Disney costumes! Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door for adults, $5 for students, and free for children under age 5 and for one 5th grade orchestra student with a paying adult.
