Navigate Conflict and Embrace Differences

Two Presentations on Diversity, Inclusion and Equity with Rosetta Lee. At the first presentation at 11:30 AM entitled,”Parenting with Identity in Mind,” join Rosetta and learn how to instill positive self-identity in our children and coach them to be positive influences on others. At the second presentation at 7:00 PM, entitled “Beyond Sticks & Stones: Helping Youth Navigate Conflict & Bullying,” join Rosetta and explore key gender and cultural differences with respect to how children experience and deal with bullying. Medicare Made Clear

This presentation will provide an overview of the different parts of Medicare (parts A, B, C, D, and supplements), what they cover and how they work, as well as enrollment and eligibility guidelines. The aim is to provide useful information that will put attendees in a better position to make an informed decision on their Medicare coverage. The presenter is not connected to the Federal Medicare Program.

CPR classes with AED
Wednesday, January 23, 7 – 9 pm | Saturday, January 26, 9 am – 2 pm
Main Fire Station, 3030 78th Ave SE

The CPR AED is a classroom, video-based, instructor-led course that teaches CPR and AED use, as well as how to relieve choking. Upon completion of this course, students receive a Completion Card that is valid for two years. There are 2 classes offered: Infant, Child, & Adult CPR on January 23 and First Aid & Adult CPR on January 26.

Community Outreach Meeting – Community Facilities Zone

The City is conducting community outreach meetings to consider the creation of city code for a proposed new zoning designation, the Community Facilities zone. The City is looking for input from citizens for the code writing process. The goal is to ensure that development of facilities located in the new zone would occur in a manner that is harmonious with surrounding properties.

She is also a regular host and storyteller with “The Moth,” and her stories are part of their award-winning radio show, podcast, and New York Times best-selling book. Don’t miss the Youth Theatre Northwest’s production of Mary Poppins, Jr., a musical based on the stories of P.L Travers and the Walt Disney film and directed by Kate Swenson. The Banks children of Cherry Tree Lane are out of control and their parents are desperate to find a new nanny. When a mysterious young woman named Mary Poppins appears at their door, the family finds that she’s the answer to their problems, but in the most peculiar way. Kindergarten Information Session

Mercer Island Elementary Schools

Each Mercer Island Elementary School (Island Park, Lakeridge, Northwood and West Mercer) will hold a Kindergarten registration information session from 6 to 7 pm on January 28. Parents with incoming kindergarteners are invited to attend and learn more about the school their child will be attending. No children please. Kindergarten registration for the 2018-19 school year begins on January 29, 2019. Registration will open online at that time.

Registration opens for MIYFS Foundation Breakfast

You are invited to the MIYFS Foundation Annual Breakfast on Wednesday, February 13. For the past 30 years, MIYFS has been the sole full-service provider for social and human services in the City. It does it without fanfare or publicity and its scope of work is simply mind boggling in its reach. Providing emergency assistance, mental health services, senior outreach and counseling, the Food Pantry, the Thrift Shop, youth programs, and professional mental health counselors in each school, MIYFS is present in our community every step of the way.
