We hope everyone has a safe and happy Fourth of July! Here’s our weekly round-up of events from July 2 – 8 on Mercer Island:

44th Annual MIVAL Jr Art Show

Monday, July 2 – Saturday, July 14, 9 am – 6 pm

Mercer Island Wells Fargo Bank, 3001 78th Ave SE

This fantastic event will once again showcase the amazing artistic talents of the young people on Mercer Island. All work will be on public display and cash prizes are awarded. The pieces will be on display at Wells Fargo Bank until July 14th, and the award ceremony will be during Summer Celebration.


Summer Movies at MI Library: SING!

Thursday, July 5, 10:30 am – Noon

Mercer Island Library, 4400 88th Ave SE

This family-friendly program is for ages 5 and older. Enjoy fun, family movies! This week’s movie is Sing! Registration is not required, but space is limited.


Tabletop Thursdays

Thursday, July 5, 4 – 7 pm

Mercer Island Community & Event Center, 8236 SE 24th Street

Drop by for an afternoon of board games, video games, playing pool or ping-pong, and hanging out. There’s a huge selection of games, and the staff is always up to taking on a new competitor. Games include: Codenames, Mission Red Planet, Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Connect 4, Monopoly, and more. Free for ages 7 – 14.

Community Coffee Hour

Friday, July 6, 9 – 10 am

Mercer Island Community & Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St

Join Mercer Island Parks & Recreation for Community Coffee Hour every Wednesday and Friday! This is a free program for kids, teens, adults, seniors, and families. Enjoy a hot cup of coffee in a fun and engaging atmosphere with people from the community.

First Friday Art Walk

Come out for Mercer Island’s First Friday Art Walk. Art galleries on Mercer Island will be hosting their art walk events on the first Friday of the month (and some have free wine!).  Clarke + Clarke, MIVAL Gallery, and SZ Gallery will be participating.

Lucia Neagu – Opening Reception

Stop by MIVAL on First Friday Art Walk for the opening reception of their seventh gallery exhibit of the year. They will be featuring Lucia Neagu’s exhibit, “Shapes and Color – My Passion,” from July 5 — July 29th. The gallery will have new artwork, refreshments, and music.

Youth Theatre Northwest presents Chaos Theory 

Friday, July 6 & Saturday, July 7, 7 pm

Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 4400 86th Ave SE

Imagine attending a show that has no script and hasn’t been rehearsed. What can you expect? An evening of unrepentant comedy and gut-busting laughter. Youth Theatre’s improvisational comedy troupe Chaos Theory will take suggestions from the audience to create razor-sharp, hysterical moments of unforgettable theatre. Come ready to play and leave laughing. Best for ages 9+. This event will take place in the Parish Hall Theater at Emmanuel Episcopal Church.
