A Memorial Celebration of the Life of Brian Doyle

No one in our present times was better able to articulate the joys and sorrows of the human condition than Brian Doyle was, and his death on May 27th of this year has diminished us all immeasurably. Join Island Books as they celebrate his life and work by sharing company and his wonderful words. Bring a favorite passage (or two or three) from Brian Doyle’s many books to read aloud.

Senior Foundation of Mercer Island Workshop

The Senior Foundation of Mercer Island (SFMI) will be hosting a workshop to help seniors stay independent. SFMI wants seniors to stay in their homes as long as possible, and they want to provide as much information as they can to make this goal a reality, such as critical information on senior transportation and logistics. Mediterranean Diet with a NSM Nutritionist

Mathblast Science Exhibit

Presented by Pacific Science Center, this family program is open to kids of all ages. See how math comes to life as you explore interactive exhibits. Use spatial reasoning to build three-dimensional shapes and solve puzzles. Discover complex patterns and ways to use math every day. Stop by anytime between 11 am – 2 pm.
Artists Reception for “Harmony of Color” at Mercer Gallery

“Harmony of Color” was formed in 2009 by a group of women who came together every Saturday morning with a yearning to paint. Sharing their paintings and working together benefited them more than originally anticipated or imagined. They decided to share their work with the rest of the world in hopes of inspiring others to also find time in their busy schedules to reveal their hidden talents and discover the harmony of color through their artwork. Stop by for snacks and light refreshments! The exhibit will be open from June 5 – July 21.
Steps & Reps: Father’s Day Family Fitness Event
Sunday, June 18, 9 am
Mercerdale Park, 77th SE & SE 32nd
Join the community for the 3rd annual Steps & Reps Family Sweat Session. The one hour workout (designed for all ages and fitness levels) will be lead by professional trainers from MI Athletic Club and Renew Fitness, and consists of a brisk walk/run up and down the Mercerdale Park stairs and heart-pumping, boot-camp style exercises on the Mercerdale Park field. You can also compete on the Mercerdale Park fitness equipment for your chance to win fabulous prizes.
Registration fee is $20/adult and $5/child. All registration proceeds will be donated to the Mercer Island Parks & Recreation Department in support of purchasing a new piece of outdoor fitness equipment.
Mercer Island Farmers Market

SJCC Service Event: Dinner at Our House

Do you like to cook? How about helping those in need? SJCC is partnering with YouthCare, an organization working to fight homelessness among Seattle teens, to cook dinners in the SJCC kitchen. Dinner will then be delivered to YouthCare’s Jackson Street facility to be served that evening. Please join us for a couple hours to help battle food insecurity among homeless teens!
