Community Coffee Hour

Join Mercer Island Parks & Recreation for Community Coffee Hour every Wednesday and Friday! This is a free program for kids, teens, adults, seniors, and families. Enjoy a hot cup of coffee in a fun and engaging atmosphere with people from the community.

Congressman Adam Smith: Constituent Services Outreach

Congressman Adam Smith’s office will be hosting mobile office hours to make their services more convenient and accessible to you. His staff members are able to assist constituents with Federal Agency issues such as Social Security, Internal Revenue Service, and State Department. They can also provide housing and financial support resources and help with federal grants.


Foods for Fitness with a NSM Nutritionist 
Wednesday, June 21, 12 – 1 pm

NSM can help you optimize your workouts. Whether you’re an experienced athlete or new to exercise, learn what to eat before, during, and after exercise to boost performance and recovery. This event is free and registration is required.

Basic Knitting: Making a Wrist Cuff Workshop
Wednesday, June 21, 7 – 9 pm
Mercer Island Library, 4400 88th Ave SE

Sponsored by the Friends of the Mercer Island Library, textile artist Lisa Keller will be teaching a workshop on basic knitting open to everyone (ages 10 and up). Want to learn how to knit? Learn three basic and essential stitches: casting on (getting the stitches on the needle), knit stitch, and binding off (getting your project off the knitting needles). Make a wrist cuff and discover ways to decorate it. All supplies provided. Please register online or by calling the library.


Summer Drum Circle
Thursday, June 22, 4 – 6 pm
SJCC, 3801 East Mercer Way

Feel the beat together! Join SJCC in the Kesher Community Garden for a summer drum circle. Bring a drum – whether it’s an actual drum or a water bottle, a coffee can, or your voice. Anything works! No experience needed. The event is free, but please RSVP.

Tabletop Thursdays

Drop by for an afternoon of board games, video games, playing pool or ping-pong, and hanging out. There’s a huge selection of games, and the staff is always up to taking on a new competitor. Games include: Codenames, Mission Red Planet, Settlers of Catan, Carcassonne, Ticket to Ride, Connect 4, Monopoly, and more. Free for ages 7 – 14.

Light Rail Traffic Mitigation – Community Kickoff Meeting
Thursday, June 22, 7 – 8:30 pm
West Mercer Elementary School Gym, 4141 81 Ave SE

Join the City to kickoff a community engagement process. This meeting will help determine how best to expend the traffic and safety funds secured in the draft settlement agreement with Sound Transit, regarding the impacts of light rail construction and operation.


HAM Radio (MIRO) Field Day
Saturday, June 24, 9 am – 6 pm
Sunday, June 25, 9 am – 12 pm

Field Day is an annual amateur radio event that takes place on the fourth full weekend of June. The objective is to work as many stations as possible and to practice setting up and operating in abnormal situations. The June Field Day is open to all hams within IARU Region 2, which includes North and South America, the Eastern Pacific, and Greenland.


Restoration Event

Each year, Mercer Island citizens donate hundreds of hours of their time to maintain the community’s parks and open spaces: picking up litter, planting trees, cutting down ivy, painting over graffiti, or repairing trails.


Mercer Island Farmers Market

Celebrating their 10th season, the Mercer Island Farmers Market is open every Sunday from June – October! Local Author Festival
Saturday, June 25, 2 – 4 pm

It’s time again for Island Books’ ever-popular Local Author Festival. You’ll be able to meet and greet some of the top writing talents in the region, sample their work, ask questions, and even take home an autographed book. Be sure to visit all the author stations for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate. Distinguished guests include: literary novelist Rebecca Novelli, multi-genre author Pam Stucky, paranormal YA fiction writer Katie Jaros, Pacific NW historian Lynn Bragg, and many more! There will also be drinks and snacks to share.
