Here’s my weekly round-up of upcoming events for the week of March 7th – 13th on Mercer Island:

Sing With Our Kids – Pajama Family Sing Along & Stories
Monday, March 7, 6:30 – 7:30 pm
Mercer Island Library, 4400 88th Ave SE

Bring your guitar or other instrument for a true community sing-along. Lyrics and chords will be projected on a screen so you can read, sing and play along. Nancy will be glad to tune your guitar and help you with chords before we start. Linda will share a special bedtime story before your leave.


Story Times at the Library

Join the Mercer Island Children’s Librarian for stories, songs, rhymes and fun in these 30 to 45-minute programs designed especially for you and your young child.

West Mercer Elementary, 4141 81 Ave SE

The City of Mercer Island is hosting its second Town Center Vision hearing, which will focus primarily on these Town Center topics: streetscapes, retail frontages, bonus height provisions, architectural standards, through-block connections, landscaping and open space. The evening will start with an open house at 6:30pm, a brief presentation at 7:15pm, and then a public comment period. Public comments will be limited to three minutes per person, and the City also encourages written comments, which may be emailed to: [email protected]

Fable to Table: Local, Jewish Food Movement Eco-Preneurs – Hear from local (Jewish) leaders and chefs in Seattle’s slow food and sustainable farm-to-table movement – Homegrown, Oxbow Farms, Parfait Ice Cream. Moderated by Emmy Award-nominated interviewer Warren Etheredge.


Youth Theatre Northwest Presents – Legally Blonde: The Musical

Based on the hit movie, Legally Blonde: The Musical chronicles the journey of  perky Elle Woods, a fashion savvy, UCLA sorority girl. Expecting a marriage proposal, Elle’s heart is broken when she’s dumped by her boyfriend Warner. Determined to get him back, Elle joins him at Harvard Law School only to find her perfect pink life turned upside down. Follow her through the halls of justice as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery, and scandal with the help of her BFFs and adorable chihuahua Bruiser.

The Hunting Ground: A Film & Discussion

Join us for a screening of this startling exposé of sexual assault on U.S. campuses, the institutional cover-ups, and the brutal social toll on victims and their families.

A discussion will follow the film, including representatives from Mercer Island School District, Mercer Island Police Dept. and the Dept. of Youth & Family Services, King County Sexual Assault Resource Center, and the University of Washington. Rated PG-13. This event is free and open to the public. Sponsored by the Friends of the Mercer Island Library and the Mercer Island High School PTSA. Watch the trailer.
