Here’s our weekly round-up of upcoming events for the week of September 21st – 27th on Mercer Island.

Monday, September 21st at 1 pm

Mercer Island Community & Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St
The Mercer Island Historical Society will host a presentation that will explore the mid-century modern legacy and how it can be preserved. Presenters include Chris Moore, Executive Director with the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, Michael Houser, Architectural Historian with the state Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation, and Todd Scott, Preservation Architect with the King County Historic Preservation Program.

Sound_Transit_Light_Rail_featureLight Rail Open House & Listening Session
Thursday, September 24, 5 – 7 pm
Mercer Island Community & Event Center, 8236 SE 24th St

The City of Mercer Island and Sound Transit will be hosting a public open house to provide an opportunity for attendees to learn about latest concepts of the East Link light rail expansion. Information tables will be set up by 5 pm, and an opportunity for public comment begins at 6 pm. Meeting materials will be be available online by September 21 at the Sound Transit Listening Tour webpage, which will also offer an online comment form.


Arts-Council-ShowMercer Island Arts Council Artists’ Reception & Award Ceremony
Thursday, September 24, 6:30 – 8 pm

The Mercer Gallery and the Mercer Island Arts Council is pleased to present their annual Juried Art Exhibit with Juror Stephanie Hargrave. The show will run September 14th through October 30th, 2015. An Artists’ reception and award ceremony will take place September 24th, from 6:30 – 8 pm.  Meet the artists and enjoy entertainment & refreshments.

ParentMap and Marymoor Productions are hosting a special screening of Having It All, an acclaimed local documentary by Vlada Knowlton, followed by a Q&A. In this touching, locally created film, three Seattle women set out to live their dream of balancing career, marriage, and children. After two trying years of unanticipated trade-offs and sacrifices, each finds herself with a changed life and a changed idea of what “having it all” really means.

Medicine Take-Back Day
Saturday, September 26, 10 am – 2 pm
Mercer Island City Hall, 9611 SE 36th Street

The City of Mercer Island is planning a take-back event in coordination with the US Drug Enforcement Administration’s nationwide drug “take-back” day. Drop-offs accepted on the west side of the City Hall building in the lower loading dock area. This one-day event provides residents with a no-cost, anonymous collection of unwanted and expired prescriptions (including narcotics) as well as over-the-counter medicines. Learn what is accepted here. Clean out your medicine cabinet! No marijuana or needles please.

Leave the kids with us- go get dinner, grab a movie, go shopping, or enjoy some alone time…you deserve it! Your little minions will have a blast with our staff; eating pizza, watching a movie, arts & crafts and of course playing a TON of games.


Mercer Island Farmers Market
Sunday, September 27, 10 am – 3 pm
SE 32nd Street at Mercerdale Park (between 77th and 78th Avenue SE)

Visit the Mercer Island Farmers Market for fresh produce, sustainably caught fish, pasture-raised meats, artisan and ready-to-eat foods, flowers, and more. This week’s theme is “Meet the Farmers who sustain us.” Music will also be provided by Patrick Dougherty, who will perform folk and rock music. At the children’s table activity, kids can let their inner creative juices flow and create a “squash person” to take home.


Family Yoga
