The community is invited to join the Mercer Island Arts Council and the Mercer Island Parks & Recreation department for the “unveiling” of the new mural Darwin’s Dream, based on an original painting by Rachel Holloway. The event will take place on Thursday, October 25th, at 4 pm at Aubrey Davis Park, near the location of the mural.
Holloway, a muralist, scenic artist, and production designer, has lived on the island for several years, and her mural design aims to reflect the “the little magical pockets of nature here on the Island.” Over the course of six weeks, she along with local artists Eliza Brown and Sophie Stilon produced the mural onto a retaining wall that faces the I-90 on- and off-ramps at Exit 6. The artwork completely spans 280-feet wide wall, which varies in height from 6 feet to 14 feet.
Holloway, Brown, and Stilon will share their artistic process for producing the mural at the event. Refreshments will be served. In case of rain, this event will move to the Mercer Island Community and Events Center.
Here’s the entire span of the mural as pictured on the City of Mercer Island’s website. Learn more about the event and artwork by visiting the City of Mercer Island’s Public Art information page.
