
Mercer Island’s mid-island area is approximately located between SE 40th and SE 63rd streets. It is dotted with schools and defined by grid-like neighborhoods. The Mercer Island School District’s largest school “campus” is located mid-island, and is home to the Mercer Island High School, Northwood Elementary School, and the school district administrative offices.

What to Explore
Mercer Island’s beloved library is located mid-island and is a very popular community gathering center, offering story times for children and education programs for all community members – from babies to seniors.


Nearby, you’ll also find the 5-acre Ellis Pond Park. In 1974, the City purchased 12 lots that surrounded the pond for a total of $86,700. The City’s purchase prevented the area from becoming a housing development and established the now tranquil Ellis Pond Park.
The marsh and wetland area has become home to ducks and other wildlife and includes trails and an Ironwood foot bridge that connect it to the nearby residential streets.


Island Crest Park and Deane’s Children’s Park, are the most popular mid-island parks. Also know as the Dragon Park, Deane’s Children’s Park features an amazing dragon sculpture which doubles as a play structure, as well as a castle-themed playground.

Island Crest Park is a popular location for athletic activities, and includes two full-size baseball fields, tennis courts, a football field, soccer field, an extensive trail system.
Homestead Field is another popular park located mid-island near West Mercer Elementary school and is often busy every weekend with youth sports programs. This park also includes tennis courts and a playground.


Families should take advantage of the great programs offered by the Mercer Island Boys & Girls Club, known as the “PEAK,” located in the mid-island area. Nearby, you’ll also find the Mary Wayte pool, a public swimming pool owned by the Mercer Island School District, which offers lap and recreational swimming as well as swim lessons.
The Neighborhoods
Mid-island is home to many neighborhoods. Some are distinct, such as Mercerwood and Parkwood. Some are more challenging to define and more described based on their proximity to a community amenity or park, such as the Library neighborhood and Ellis Pond neighborhood.



Many small mid-island neighborhoods are defined by a single street, lane, or loop. Such neighborhoods include Wembley Lane (where residents enjoys a neighborhood pool), Landsdowne Lane, Island Glen & Dawn Villa, and Salem Woods.
